Minimising the impact of the greenhouse gas emissions caused by Australian homes has influenced Australian homeowners to search for sustainable housing alternatives in relation to water, energy & waste.

The creation of the SOS Housing Project in South Nowra is dedicated to promoting consumer choice in sustainable housing design, products and inclusions.
As a major contributor, Weathertex proudly supported the project by incorporating their ‘green’ vision by donating weatherboard and architectural panel products of which are environmentally sustainable and feature a negative carbon footprint. Weathertex’s involvement signified the need to further educate homeowners of sustainable housing alternatives, as the current total contribution of Australian Homes to greenhouse gas emissions reached 20%. Weathertex’s ecological feat in supporting the SOS Housing Project demonstrates the many cost effective, lifestyle, comfort and on-going financial opportunities Weathertex products encompass.
The SOS Housing Project will be open until June 2010 and will be used as a venue for housing related forums and workshops. www.soshouseproject.com
This is a house designed with a lower environmental impact in mind," said Project Owner and Principal Sponsor, Max Zalakos who presented the Project to more than seventy (70) Commercial Participants and non-commercial Supporting Organisations on June 30th. Max who distributes Timbercrete® Products, an innovative, thermally-efficient brick product is enthusiastic. “This Project is about promoting more sustainability in housing design, construction and inclusions. We want to encourage people to be involved in Sustaining Our Shoalhaven,” he said.
Max Zalakos said: “The Display Home will be a unique example of its type locally. Its purpose is to help inspire people to consider choosing a more sustainable, efficient design and products when planning their home. Right from the start, we wanted this to be a local project to promote better practice in housing. The housing industry is being encouraged to do what they can towards the ideals of sustainability and a lower eco footprint - and this is our contribution to that effort.”
